THESIS
George Washington was the most respected, the most celebrated hero during colonial times. He spent his life in service to his country, first as a soldier, then as a lawmaker in the Virginia House of Burgesses, again as the Commander in Chief of the Continental Army, and finally as the first President of the United States. Washington's efforts on the battlefield assured America's independence from Britain. As President, he guided the nation through turbulent times and secured peace, liberty and prosperity for all.
